You wouldn't believe us without these pictures!!!
08/07/2009 - By Ralph Recessed light in a drop ceiling
everything wrong here! at least they wrapped the ground wire around the metal on the fixture.
These pictures were sent in when remodeling an addition! Everything that could be "electrically wrong" was found here. Mostly above the drop ceiling. We just couldn't believe it worked and no fires or shorts occurred.
There were two recessed lights above a staircase in a drop ceiling, when we attempted to remove them this is what we found. They used 14/3 UF wire to an outlet in a two gang nail on box. Moron's had no idea how to strip the conductors and only 1 inch was removed from the coating. The copper was all nicked up too. They put an outlet above the ceiling, no cover plate on the two gang box, then they rigged a plug end on two white wires and open air spliced the recessed lights together. All of this above an insulated drop ceiling with 10 people living in the house. In the pictures you can see what they describe.
The one picture is what we found when they tried to install 2 ceiling fans. Also above the drop ceiling, 14/3UF, open splices and a metal box screwed to a piece of wood. No canopy used and the fan was ready to fall from the downrod because they didn't use the cotter pin.
